From Dancer to Teacher; Foundations of Great Instruction
Focus: Teaching isn’t just about knowing the steps, it’s about sharing the dance in a way that sticks. Whether you’re brand new to teaching or already leading classes, this two-hour intensive with Hugo & Stacy is designed to level up your skills as an instructor.
ABOUT THIS PROGRAM
We’ll show you how to break down moves so anyone can get them, how to read the room and keep your class engaged, and how to deliver feedback that motivates instead of intimidates. You’ll also get to step into the role yourself; creating and practicing a mini-lesson with real-time coaching from us.
If you’ve ever thought: “I know how to dance, but how do I really teach it?” This workshop is for you. This session blends teaching theory, practical drills, and real-world classroom strategies, giving you tools to structure your lessons with clarity, keep students engaged, and adapt to different learning styles. Whether you’re just starting to teach or looking to refine your approach, this training will help you step confidently into your role as an educator.
Hour 1: Building the Teacher Mindset
- From Performer to Instructor – shifting perspective from “showing” to “teaching.”
- Learning Styles in the Studio – kinesthetic, visual, and auditory learners.
- Breaking Down Movement – how to simplify complex patterns into teachable steps.
- Language & Communication – clear cues, pacing, and avoiding jargon.
Hour 2: Practical Teaching Tools
- Structuring a Class – openings, progressions, drills, and wrap-up.
- Managing Energy & Engagement – strategies for keeping students motivated.
- Feedback that Works – balancing encouragement with constructive correction.
- Handling Real-World Challenges – late students, mixed levels, nervous beginners.
- Interactive Practice – participants create a short mini-lesson and receive feedback.
